Birding Tips and Tricks

As a new “Birder” I thought it might be helpful to have a page or two where I give a little advice to novice bird watchers.  It will also be nice for experienced Birders to share some helpful tips as well. I’ve added some links to other pages on this website below.  Feel free to click on the links and comment on the content there as well.

If you have questions about bird watching, please feel free to ask them here.  Anyone who has an answer please share.  It is a learning place for all of us.

Do not trust the color of a bird sitting in sunlight. Sun can do strange things to color.

Great advice, Linda. Gray skies and shadows have the same effect on me.

When I photograph a bird I try to get several different angles. Sometimes just the bird moving around while preening helps to identify colors, wing bands, eye rings, etc if I’m shooting on a continuous sports mode or short burst of continuous shots.
